People using radio production and broadcast in the margins of society to change their own lives and the lives of those around them.
Social Radio is a team of social entrepreneurs developing, establishing and widening the use of radio as a tool for rehabilitation, education and social development for those at the margins of society. Social Radio develops projects that are based on principle of using the power of the human voice as a key to changing human lives via the medium of radio by initiating, training, operating and consulting to radio-based social and educational ventures as well as professional employment in the radio and sound recording fields.
Social Radio has established a track record in such radio-based projects including:
‘Radio Focus – the voice of convicts’, a radio station within the Israeli Ayalon prison. Radio Focus is run by prisoners and broadcasts 24/7 content relating to rehabilitation, education, self-development to all cells in the criminal penitentiary system in Israel.
“Radio Start” is a radio station for high school students in Sha’ar HaNegev in Israel that produces radio programs with content developed by youths suffering from ADHD. The program has already demonstrated its success in preventing early school leaving.
From experience accumulated to date, it is clear that radio can be used to create significant change and empowerment, as well as being a tool for for education and rehabilitation.
