No child left behind
Social venture for promoting children in the Israeli welfare system
Taking Responsibility focuses on critical topics affecting the impact on the development and educational opportunities among children in the Israeli welfare system. The venture operates in a coordination mode in order to achieve multi-organizational solutions from the public system. These solutions solve problems that hold back children from progressing in their studies.
A first emphasis is increasing national responsibility for nutritional security among children in poverty or at substantial risk. It is estimated that in Israel there are between 20,000 to 40,000 children suffering from hunger, of which only 8,000 receive some solution from food charities due to insufficient resources. Research shows that this hardship causes children at risk to extreme behaviors, early leaving from school, and devolvement to criminal and violent activities. To date, the venture has achieved institutional recognition of the presence of hunger among Israeli children in schools in the social and geographical margins of Israel. Furthermore, Taking Responsibility is promoting a national program that will ensure that every child in school in areas ranked 1-4 in the socio- economic index receives a sandwich considered healthy and filling.
Recently, as result of the Covid-19 emergency and the resulting need to have school students study online and remotely, the need of children in the welfare system to have access to computers and associated equipment has become acute. This is critical for those children to continue to remain integrated in the educational system.
For that reason, a fundraising campaign for renovated computer equipment from businesses employing those in under-developed sectors of society while minimizing electronic waste.
